Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept health insurance?
Elemental Findings, PLLC is a private pay only Therapy services, and does not take health insurance except for SuperBill services. Clients are responsible for contacting their insurance providers to see if they qualify for reimbursement of SuperBill services. Expand the text below to find out some important advantages of paying out of pocket instead of using insurance.
Do you provide in-person sessions?
At the moment I am only offering HIPAA compliant telehealth sessions for clients seeking mental health services in the state of Washington due to my prioritization of the physical health of our clients and ourselves. I will continue to provide virtual sessions for our consulting clients in/out of state and country.
How often do I attend therapy?
Most people find regularly scheduled weekly appointments to be most helpful. More or less frequent appointments can sometimes be arranged, though it’s usually best to attend a minimum of one session per week for the first month or so. Drop-in appointments are also often available on an as-needed basis.
How long are people usually in therapy?
This depends entirely on the individual’s needs and preference. For some people, short-term therapy from three to six months is adequate to address a less complicated problem or issue, while others find long-term therapy that lasts for a year or more to be most effective. Some people enjoy the consistent and neutral support of a therapist to be helpful on an ongoing basis, even when they have no specific problem to work on or issue to discuss.
Do you offer sliding scale fees?
Elemental Findings has dedicated a certain amount of sliding scale slots to ensure that I am able to provide accessible therapeutic services to our client’s with financial limitations. I have a limited amount of sliding scale slots at this time.
How do I make an appointment?
To schedule an appointment or to schedule a free 15-minute consultation over the phone, please fill out our Intake form on the Contact Page or click “Contact Us” in the section below.
Do you offer HRT and/or gender affirmation letters?
Yes, I offer these in one session, free of charge, to support the LGBTQIA+ community.
Do you offer ESA letters?
Yes, I currently write ESA letters for clients I have seen for 6 months or longer. An evaluation is needed in order to provide these letters.
Private Pay vs. Insurance
Choosing between paying privately or using insurance for therapy depends on what works best for your situation and aims. Private pay offers benefits such as customized care, confidentiality, and easy payment, while insurance may have some restrictions. You have the option to decide what suits you better.
Private Pay Therapists vs. Insurance
Privacy
One of Elemental Findings values are to protect the information you share with us as we understand how much it means to keep things private. Thus, Elemental Findings have chosen to not accept insurance to ensure your privacy is kept 100% confidential, especially from health insurance companies. There are some exceptions to confidentiality, which Elemental Findings will explain during your initial session and are listed within the service consent forms.
Control
When you use insurance, they decide what services you can get, how much they will pay, and how often you can receive them. As the insurance member, you have to settle for the quality and quantity of care that the insurance offers. When you pay privately, you have more control over the type of service you need, the number of sessions you want per week, and the price point that fits your budget.
Choice
You may have a problem or issue that requires a provider who has specific knowledge, skills or experience in that area. As a Marriage & Family Therapist, I have the expertise to help you with relationship issues and how they affect your mental health. If you use insurance, you may not be able to choose a specialist like me, because insurance only covers generalist providers who are in their network.
Waiting List
In Washington, most residents are required to get insurance by law. This means that many providers who work with insurance have long waitlists. There are not enough providers who can offer services through insurance, but there are many people who need them. With Private pay, you don’t have to wait for most services. You can ask for services and get an intake appointment right away, or within a week or two.
Flexibility
Insurance may limit how often you can get services, even if you have a good plan. You may need more than one session per week to get the support you need for therapy. Sometimes, having more sessions at the start can help you make lasting changes. Elemental Findings is flexible and can offer you services that match your needs, as long as there is availability and you can pay for each session.
Diagnosis
Insurance makes therapists give a mental health diagnosis to their clients before they can pay for the services. We think this is not fair or right for the people who need help. We know that some people find it useful to have a diagnosis to name their problem. But we prefer to help you with your problem, not with finding a diagnosis to explain why you need therapy.
Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
Good Faith Estimate
Your Rights
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
Disputes
You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
